SCHOOL GROUPS

The Atlantic City Aquarium offers a unique experience for schools, scouts, camps and organizations looking for a fun and interactive learning experience.

AQUARIUM GUIDED TOUR

Choose a guided tour for your group, where students will learn about the various sea creatures found throughout our facility, beginning with our first-floor Mid-Atlantic Ocean tank. They will also explore over 2,000 gallons of hands-on Touch Tanks. Here, students have a unique opportunity to interact with white spotted bamboo sharks, sea stars, conchs & sea urchins, as well as a variety of local invertebrates as well as other beach residents.

On the second floor, students will enter the world of our baby rays. In our 900-gallon baby ray touch tank, they will meet cownose rays – who are sure to captivate!

At the conclusion of their guided tour, students will view additional exhibits including 12 aquarium tanks containing local and tropical fish species, live coral, moon jellies, sea horses and moray eels. They will see habitats featuring Diamondback Terrapins; various species found along the Mullica River, and explore our tropical rain forest.

LIVE DIVER FEEDING SHOW

The Live Diver Feeding Show features one of the Aquarium’s divers in the 25,000 gallon “Fish of the Mid-Atlantic” tank. The audience can watch and interact with the diver as they hand-feed Cownose Rays, Smooth Dogfish and the other residents of the tank. Also, be on the lookout for our Loggerhead Sea Turtle, Groman! The audience will also have the opportunity to interact with the diver by asking questions throughout the show.

TurtleEXOTIC ANIMAL SHOW

Guests will get up close to the aquarium’s more unusual inhabitants. During this 20-minute presentation students will see a variety of animals which could include a six foot boa, bearded dragon or tarantula, just to name a few. Aquarium handlers discuss their native habitats, their suitability as pets, natural defenses and predatory instincts along with other interesting facts. Throughout the interactive show, everyone will have the opportunity to ask our handlers questions.

Beach Ecology

BEACH ECOLOGY LESSON

Students will travel to the nearby beach for a hands-on lesson in Beach Ecology. They will learn the importance of sand dunes while identifying plant life that grows in the dunes. This program includes information on the wrack line and how it forms and allows students the opportunity to look for hidden treasures collected in the wrack line. The tour concludes with a shell collecting expedition and discussion on shells collected including what animals came from the shell and what animals will make the empty shell their home. This also includes a guided Aquarium tour.

crabSALT MARSH ECOSYSTEM LESSON

Students will visit a local salt marsh for hands-on study. During this program students will learn about the world of fiddler crabs and other life in the Salt Marsh including bird identification and the life of a diamondback terrapin. The tour finishes with students using dip nets, buckets and shovels to search a small section of the marsh for specimen collection and discussion. This also includes a guided Aquarium tour.

  • Please allow a minimum of 3 hours for salt marsh ecosystem lesson & Aquarium tour

ECOLOGY CRUISE

Choose a one-hour educational cruise of the back bays, highlighting our barrier island ecosystem, local and migratory birds and New Jersey’s only Wind Farm. Or choose a one hour cruise along the skyline of Atlantic City featuring New Jersey’s tallest lighthouse, Absecon Lighthouse, the famous skyline, and piers of Atlantic City and a chance to observe the resident Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphin, in season. Both cruises highlight the local species of fish swimming below as well as maritime history of Atlantic City and Absecon Inlet.

AQUARIUM & ABSECON LIGHTHOUSE TOUR

Students will have a guided tour of the Atlantic City Aquarium along with a guided tour of the grounds, museum and climb to the top of the Absecon Lighthouse tower!

Costs:

  • $9.50 each/under 20 students
  • $9.00 each/20 or more students
  • (1) Adult free for every (10) students / Additional Adults $14.00
